Your frequently asked questions – answered
Here’s a range of typical questions we’ve been asked over the phone about our website optimisation course.
Q: Do I need any SEO ability at all to complete this course?
A: Not at all. You’re already using your in-house skills, running your own business; all we’re doing is teaching you some additional skills (How to Do-it-Yourself SEO) so that you can rank more effectively online, using your website to help you create new customers and bring in extra sales.
Q: Do I need any additional software or hardware?
A: You certainly don’t need any hardware but you may need one or two popular online SEO tools to collect certain batches of information. However, there’s nothing stopping you from simply opening one of these accounts for one month only and doing all that you need to do in that account during that month. We explain more in the course.
Q: Will the course be difficult to understand?
A: Certainly not! We’ve been involved in SEO since 1996 and teaching UK businesses how to do their own SEO since 2005 through our two-day training courses. In all this time, we’ve never not been able to explain things in a fully understandable way, and this course is published in the same manner. Videos, images and accompanying text explanations make everything completely clear.
Q: How long will it take me to learn all I need to do to SEO my own web pages?
A: That’s a ‘how long is a piece of string?‘ question. Being honest about this, the answer depends entirely upon your own efforts and enthusiasm – you are the one that needs to be willing to read, watch, listen and work on your web pages as you go along. Your own inclination is your best guide; be honest with yourself – have you got it in you to want to make the most of your business? We think so and that’s why the SEO course is here.
Short answer: Roll your sleeves up, spend as much time on the course as you can and you’ll be finished in a month. Be prepared to work on your site.
Q: Is it a technical course?
A: No, it’s not a technical course, but it does teach you what could be termed ‘technical’ skills in an easy to understand way. So, whilst it’s not a technical course, you will come out the other side of it understanding a few new technical skills that will help you push up your keyword rankings.
Q: Do I need to have any experience of SEO to be able to understand this training course and apply what I learn to my web pages?
A: Not at all, we’ve laid everything out in plain, good old-fashioned English. But if you don’t understand any aspect of the course, simply drop us an email about it and we’ll help explain.
Q: Will the course be effective for me? Will it work?
A: Yes, as long as you get stuck in and put enough of your spare time into the training course so that you build up your own expertise. Don’t register for the course if you don’t think you have the motivation to see it through. You also need to have a degree of realism about your abilities. This course isn’t designed to turn you into a hotshot online marketer; it’s more about giving you the skills needed to fully optimise your site based on realistic and achievable goals.
Q: Will I understand everything about SEO after taking the course?
A: No, but this isn’t the objective of this course. It’s not designed to teach you to become an SEO, it’s designed to provide you with enough detailed information to enable you to work through your web pages and systematically work the strategies into your website. We expect everyone who goes through the training to see the results of their own efforts reflected in their keyword rankings.
Q: If I don’t understand the training course or I find I don’t have the time to SEO my own web pages, can I ask my web designer to do it for me?
A: If you’ve paid for the course but do not feel you understand what you need to do, then you can pass your login details to your web designer, provided they get in touch with us first so that we can authorise access to them.
Q: Is there any additional tuition offered through the course?
A: Whilst additional tuition is not included we do offer 1-1 mentoring. Just get in touch with us to discuss your needs.
Q: Can I work on my course from anywhere?
A: Absolutely! As long as you can remember your login details you can work inside the course from wherever you like.
Q: How long will I need to wait until I see ranking improvements?
A: A good question. Assuming you’ve understood everything and worked on your web pages, then we’d normally expect your rankings to improve within three cached dates of the page you’ve SEO’d. In short, this is on average 3 weeks, but it does require Google’s spider to have grabbed your updated pages in the meantime. Sometimes ranking improvements occur faster, and sometimes they take longer. Do remember, the improvements you see are dependent on how well you’ve carried your work out.
Q: Can I get a full refund if I’m dissatisfied?
A: We’d hope that Fresh Bananas meets and surpasses all your expectations. If this isn’t the case, we apologise. As this is a digital product and is likely to be taken up by people running businesses, then refunds aren’t generally possible. However, we will consider any special circumstances on a case-by-case basis. If you’d like to discuss the possibility of a refund, please get in touch with us to explain your circumstances.
Q: I get lots of unsolicited emails from SEO companies who offer me all sorts of tempting promises. Does the course offer any advice for me if I feel after doing the course that I still need to consult an SEO?
A: Yes it does. In fact, unsolicited emails are one of our pet hates in the online marketing world, as we get them just like you do. There are some very sensible things you can do before you commit to the services of any SEO company, and we explain in detail exactly what you should do to ensure you don’t get stung by what seems to be an almost endless road of false promises.
Q: Am I likely to be able to apply the techniques I’ve learnt here and roll them out in a similar pattern on another website?
A: Yes, this is perfectly possible, but do keep in mind that you may find lots of variations in what you’ve then got to deal with. Example: an image-based website with very little copy on the web pages is a completely different beast to a page with plenty of copy that you can work with. The keywords may also be very different to those you’ve already worked on and successfully attained rankings for, so be warned, you may have a new learning curve ahead of you.
